Notebook repair blog - I created this website to share my laptop troubleshooting experience with others. This will guide you about laptop keyboard repair and laptop LCD repair , how to open notebook computer for troubleshooting and how to repair water spilled on laptop.

Laptop keyboard repair :- 

There are many people looking for technical help about laptop keyboard repairing and how to replace notebook keyboard. How to fix laptop key problem as some keys are not working. Laptop keyboard is most roughly used component and I personally seen many laptop keyboard problem of HP, Dell, Microsoft, Google, Compaq Samsung. Laptop LCD repair: - 

Laptop LCD screen is the most delicate part, it folds and unfold many time. Also the LCD circuit that connect motherboard and laptop LCD screen is very movable. There are many common laptop problem which you can troubleshoot at you own without any help from technical support. I covered few important issues and I am also planning to add few more laptop troubleshooting guide in future.

Spilled water on laptop: -

 Now a days laptop and mobile are very common. People use to work with laptop while watching TV or taking dinner or tea or water. It is the most common problem that by mistake you may spilled water on laptop keyboard or may spill water or tea on LCD of laptop. This water spilled on laptop may damage notebook. In this post I covered how to troubleshoot spilled water damage on laptop.

 Laptop Keyboard Repair and laptop keyboard replacement guide.

Laptop keyboard repair is essential as it is most used hardware. User can troubleshoot laptop keyboard problem by himself. It require to remove keyboard from laptop. Keyboard disassemble is the first step for laptop keyboard replacement and problem troubleshooting. This guide allow to repair keyboard key not working.

How to replace laptop keyboard for repairing.

Here is example for keyboard replacement for Toshiba Satellite A135 laptop. The laptop keyboard removal method will be same for most of the Toshiba laptop. Use this method for Lenovo, HP Hewlett Packard, Dell, Google Pixelbook, Apple, Asus, Acer Allview gamebook, gigabyte, LG, Nokia, Optima and MSI Micro Star International keyboard.Here is useful instruction for how to Laptop Keyboard Repair.

Steps for laptop keyboard repair and replacement.

How to Remove Keyboard Bezel.

1) First remove laptop keyboard bezel. Insert flathead screwdriver under the keyboard bezel and lift it and with your hand removing the keyboard bezel. There is not skews for laptop bezel. In Toshiba bezel is just plastic piece and not connected with motherboard.

2) After removing the bezel, you will get access to keyboard skews. Remove all screws( you can see red mark in picture). You can see in the center red arrow that is plastic latch. Release that plastic latch and lift up the keyboard. In course of laptop keyboard removal take precise case. This step is important for laptop keyboard troubleshooting.

How to fix laptop keyboard connector Broken Notch.

3) But keyboard is still connected with the motherboard.Just put keyboard aside, so you can get access to the connector underneath keyboard. This connector is attached with the motherboard with flat cable. You need to unlock the connector to remove keyboard.

4) For laptop keyboard connector replacement, Disassemble laptop. Remove laptop motherboard and Turn over laptop motherboard. Find keyboard connector lock which are plastic press lock. Use sharp needle or use soldering iron and melt keyboard connector lock. Clean traces and press new keyboard connector.

How to replace Keyboard Ribbon cable.

5) Unlock the connector by moving the lock up as shown in the right image and after that release flat ribbon cable. Remove and replace laptop keyboard. To install keyboard follow the steps in reverse direction.

6) To replace laptop keyboard ribbon cable. Just remove ribbon cable as per step 5. Insert new ribbon cable and Lock it properly. It does not require to disassemble laptop for keyboard replacement and flat ribbon cable replacement.

Repair laptop Keyboard keys are not working.

1) Laptop keyboard key have press lock.

2) Use keyboard key remover, keycap puller or plastic screw driver to remove keyboard keys. Use drawing or mathematics plastic ruler to remove key from keyboard.

3) Use cotton and isopropyl to clean keyboard key assemble. 

4) There is one transparent rubber cap or keyboard membrane, below it you will find keyboard circuit board. Clean keyboard membrane, replace keyboard membrane, if it is teared or damaged.

5) Now press rubber cap of keyboard and check whether key is working or not.

6) Put key on keyboard and press it to lock key to keyboard. Keyboard membrane vs mechanical keyboard repair is totally different things. First check where keyboard is mechanical or membrane keyboard. Most of the time if membrane is broken some keyboard key will not work.

Laptop Keyboard Repair - Removing and replacing laptop Keyboard

Detailed guide for laptop keyboard repair and replacement do it yourself keyboard repair. It is not possible to explain all the laptop model but you can get ideal how to do laptop keyboard replacement. Use this guide for Lenovo, HP Hewlett Packard, Dell, Google Pixelbook, Apple, Asus, Acer, MSI, Samsung and Microsoft keyboard troubleshooting and repairs.

Note:-If your laptop is under warranty then I advice to contact local service center. Use this techniques when keyboard is not working properly.It is useful for keyboard troubleshooting. It provide guide to replace keyboard membrane.

Methods for laptop keyboard replacement and repair.

1) First unplug AC adapter and remove battery before opening and disassemble laptop case, proceed on your own risk.
I am explaining laptop keyboard repairing and replacement for Sony VAIO model number:- pcg-9s1L laptop and method will be similar to other Sony laptop also.

How to remove keyboard from laptop.

2) Keep all tool set for laptop and Insert Flathead screwdriver under the keyboard bezel.Lift it up with light pressure upwards and releasing plastic latches and with your hand’s finger removing the keyboard bezel. Laptop keyboard bezel has a press lock. You can easily remove keyboard bezel from laptop.

3) Don’t apply much force to remove keyboard bezel assembly. As in some laptop, keyboard bezel might be connected to the motherboard as it is shown in the picture. If something is attached with keyboard bezel, do not remove it as it is not necessary to disconnect the keyboard bezel to replace laptop keyboard. Purpose of removing bezel is to get access the keyboard screws. This is wise steps for laptop keyboard repair and replacement.

4) Remove three or sometime more screws from the top of the keyboard. Carefully lift up the keyboard from the laptop case. This result in successful removal of laptop keyboard.

How to replace keyboard ribbon cable.

5) The keyboard is connected with motherboard with a flat ribbon cable. You need to unlock laptop keyboard connector. You can unlock connector while pressing it toward the laptop LCD screen. Use step number 5 to replace keyboard flat ribbon cable. Check keyboard socket pin before keyboard cable replacement. Most of the keyboard socket has 30 to 32 pin. 30 pin keyboard socket can not be used with 32 pin cable and vice a versa.

This picture shows how to unlock laptop keyboard connector. Carefully move the connector lock 2-3 millimeters up and then pull the keyboard cable. To Attach the keyboard follow these all steps in last to first steps. This conclude how to repair and replace laptop keyboard component.

Troubleshoot laptop keyboard type automatically.

1) Go to setting / control penal / hardware manager and remove keyboard.

2) Install keyboard driver. Normally operating system install default driver for keyboard.

3) Press every key of keyboard one by one. If any keyboard key is stuck, release it.

4) Blow light air to every key open space.

5) Scan notebook with antivirus.

6) Update operating system. This keyboard troubleshooting steps are useful when laptop keyboard work weird or keyboard ghost typing.

There are two type of keyboard 1) keyboard membrane 2) Mechanical keyboard. If keyboard membrane is broken or teared. Some keys may stuck cause automatic typing. Take out keyboard from laptop and replace keyboard membrane.
